My story

Hello! I completed the half marathon in 1.58:30 so really pleased to finish in under 2 hours. I thoroughly enjoyed the day which began with an early morning live phone interview with BBC Radio Cambridgeshire who covered the event and let me do a big promotion about SOS Children, since three of us from the SOS Children office took part.

Thank you so much for your generous sponsorship - this really helped to motivate me and keep up the pace on the last couple of miles! Martin and my family came along to be our personal cheerleaders and the people of Peterborough were out in great numbers to support the runners too, so all in all it was a fantastic day : ) Thank you x

Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit my page!

I bought some running shoes in the New Year and this was perceived to be another fad by those who know me best... but I've begun to enjoy my early morning runs and decided it's time to set myself a challenge, so here it is - the Peterborough Half Marathon. My previous fundraisers have been mountain treks but as they only require walking, this is by far my biggest challenge yet, so I'd be really spurred on over those 13.1 miles if you would please sponsor me.

I've been working for SOS Children for nearly 4 years. It's an incredible 60-year old global organisation that provides a home, an education and a family for orphaned and abandoned children through its SOS Children's Villages. I've visited a couple of projects in The Gambia, where Martin and I sponsor a child. My co-workers on the ground do a phenomenal job of transforming the lives of children who have lost their parents through poverty, disease, conflict and natural disaster. Many more vulnerable children in the wider communities of the villages are also helped through SOS schools, vocational training, medical care and outreach programmes.

I met Nana (SOS Mother in the photo) last year, when I attended the official opening of the SOS Children's Village in Basse. SOS Mothers are wonderful full-time carers of 10 orphaned children who grow up together in a family house as brothers and sisters, becoming a family for life.

Donations to this page will be allocated to Basse and help to fund the food, clothing, education and medical care of the children living there.

JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure, so it’s the most efficient way to donate.

Thank you for reading - your support will make a real difference, so please sponsor me now!
Caroline x

P.S once a children's village has enough child or village sponsors, it is fully-funded and we can begin a new project:
