BUPA Great South Run 2008 · 26 October 2008 ·

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects over 400,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Back in March, inspired by my brother, who is about to run in his 5th marathon, and after a pleasant Sunday lunch at my parents with him and all the family, I committed  to entering and running the Great South Run.   Did I run then?   Did I do any   exercise?       No....       but it's only 10 miles....   how hard can it be?!!                   Obviously  too much wine with lunch!!

6 months on..... a new pair of trainers, a lot of miles, some pain and a 10k race    under my belt , now sober and with the race looming, 10 miles seems like quite a  long way!!   Especially, as those of you who know me, know that my body is not built   for speed, but bounce!

However, I know that for M.E sufferers, sometimes,  a walk around the block can  be just as much of a challenge, hence, I am hoping to  raise some money and awareness for ME Research.  I don't have a target but a total of anything over £100 work (Unilever) will match so with any luck, anything you donate will be doubled.

M.E, (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), also known as Chronic Fatique Syndrome (CFS)   or Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome.  It is a chronic fluctuating illness that affects many parts of the body, such as the nervous and immune systems. The most common symptoms are severe fatigue or exhaustion,  problems with memory and concentration and muscle pain. It is estimated that  there are about 250 000 people in the U.K with M.E , but not a lot is known about what causes it or how to treat it.

Many Thanks

Carolyn
