My story

 

Hi and thank you for getting to my homepage!

I have decided to set myself this challenge to run in the Adidas womens race in Hyde Park on September 6th 2009, with my chosen charity being THE PITUITARY FOUNDATION.

For those of you who may not know, my gorgeous eldest daughter suffers from a condition called DIABETES INSIPIDUS (no connection with sugar diabetes). This is a disorder where the kidneys are unable to retain water, caused by the lack of the water retaining hormone/chemical. Due to this, she has to be medicated twice a day, without fail, in order to live life to the full.

Not only this, but by sheer coincidence (or bad luck!) my mother also suffers from another rare pituitary disorder called ACROMEGALY. This is a growth hormone condition, which my lovely mother was diagnosed with 13 years ago and has been medicated & treated on a regular basis ever since. Neither conditions are cureable.

It is probably now somewhat clearer to see why I have chosen this as my charity to support. Not only are they involved in research but have a support network for patients and carers and like all charities, need funds to continue their invaluable work.
