We help rough sleepers in Merton and those at risk of homelessness. We offer showers, laundry, and a hot meal. We also help with accommodation, job searches, benefit and other applications, and access to local services including GP and mental health provision and drug/alcohol dependency support.

Story

Hello lovely people!  Well, after you were all SO generous in giving £180 towards the 'Sleep Easy' project back in January I've decided to try and fundraise some more!

Millions of people every year sleep rough due to circumstances outwith their control - relationship breakdown, death of a loved one, loss of job or an unsuspected financial crisis. I've heard first hand from ex army men coming back from war to find their wife has run off with everything leaving them homeles.  Another man finds himself homeless after his wife dies and his name was never on the tenancy agreement.  Each of us is actually only ever one step away from being in this situation ourselves, don't be fooled into thinking it couldn't happen to you or that it's just a place addicts find themselves. Many people die each year from the freezing temperatures and lack of food -this is a scandal. I have been fortunate enought to be brought up in a loving home and have always had 'home' to go back to. I believe that EVERYONE should have somewhere that they can call home.

For my 30th birthday, I aimed to do a skydive to raise funds for the Faith in Action/YMCA Winter shelter that is being set up in Merton this year for the homeless. Unfortunately due to me being slack in raising the funds, the skydive didn't happen!  But do not worry, all those who donated - I have set myself a bigger challenge - No alcohol for 1 whole year! This, for me, is a big challenge! It started on the 7th July 2011 and will run untill 7th July 2012.  I'm 2 1/2 months in and it's going ok!  I have learnt that dry weddings suck, Christmas should be interesting and that is has many health benefit!  But I'm loving the challenge.

My wonderful dad has joined me in the challenge and to show his support is putting all the money that he would have spent on alcohol this year into this kitty - wow!

I'd love it if you could show your support by either;

1) Joining us in the challenge - you don't have to do it for a whole year but how about a month and donating the money to the shelter?

2) Donate money straight to the shelter by using this page.

Please Please Please sponsor me to make this shelter a reality - you are literally saving peoples lives!
