Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. You were incredibly generous last year, but as Acorns rely for 90% of their fund raising from private fund raising, our own fund raising efforts continue. But we have increased our challenge to make yor sponsorship worthwhile!
2007 is special as Sophie will be 10 in August, a huge milestone for a lifelimited child. Sophie started to have noticeable siezures when she was 8 weeks old and hasn't stopped, despite the best efforts of the nuerology team at Birmingham Childrens Hospital, and cutting edge treatment. She needs one to one care 24/7 and cannot do anything for herself.
Epilepsy isn't simple : there are so many types of seizure, and no drug can control them all. Sophie has many types of seizure. It has taken away any quality of life but probably won't kill her. She is deemed life limited as children with her severity of disabilities rarely live beyond their teenage years. As she gets older and her care beomes more complex and physically challenging, acorns has become our only respite option. Most of you know about our babysitting problems as we have had to pull out of so many things!
But we are lucky. we have two wonderful daughters and Catherine has been able to become a full time carer thanks to Ted's hard work ( and credit cards!) We also have fantastic support from our family and friends. many families do not have that and rely heavily on Acorns.
Running is one of our coping mechanisms and it is great to be able to use it to raise money. We would like to ask for your support as we aim to complete the following races:
May: catherine ran 10k, Ted 5k and Louise 1k.(in the rain!)
17th June: Catherine ran the Arden 9 (miles). She is very pleased to have come LAST in her age category! (the very old age category)Considering she had a cold, she was pleased being only 2 minutes off target!
1st July: Acorns triple run, Malvern. The phptos says it all! Ted pushes Sophie around dressed as a chicken and she was still the first wheelchair finisher! Louise guided the around!
Due to the floods, the half marathon course was reduced to 11. 7 miles, which Catherine completed in 2.09.59! (that second counts!!!)
30th September: Catherine will take part and hopefully finish the Great north run. Sophie will go into respite which costs £450 per day.
October: 14th: Ted will complete the 5k uni runand the rest of us the family run.
Please dig deep and sponsor me online. All sizes of donation are welcome from £1 to £1000!
