Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Kenyan Orphan Project (KOP).
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Kenyan Orphan Project will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. The projects centre around Kisumu, in the Western province of Nyanza where 15% of the population is infected with the HIV/AIDS virus. The funds raised sustain the projects such as feeding centres, street children programmes and orphan support programmes and therefore every penny donated in the UK makes a difference. Following the Kenyan presidential and parliamentary elections on 27th December 2007 allegations of electoral rigging sparked nationwide violence.
This has led to the loss of hundreds of lives, injuries, displacements, damage and destruction of properties in the form of killings, rape, forceful evictions and internal displacement.
In Kisumu, western Kenya, the situation has had a far reaching impact on the lives of over 20,000 street children who are living precariously there.
All the funds raised by KOP Nottingham this year are going to support the street children through this period.
· The aim of the appeal is provide interim refuge centres (night and day shelters) for up to 5,000 street children · To provide basic sleeping facilities like mattresses and blankets, food and other sanitary facilities · To provide emergency medical and clinical care · To provide psychological support through counselling with the aim of preventing prolonged psychological or emotional trauma. Funds raised through the appeal will enable the Kenyan Orphan Project to provide:
Temporary day and night shelters for boys and girls Hot meals and drinks Medical and dressing materials including antibiotics, pain killers Bedding and clothing (mattresses, blankets, bed sheets, clothes) Sanitary and toilet facilities
Recreational facilities and social care – counselling and befriending More information about this charity can be found at www.kenyanorphanproject.org or please feel free to contact me on catxlloyd@googlemail.com
