Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. On 2nd October I will be off to Namibia for 9 days to undertake a challenge to rebuild a school. You can view more detail about the project at http://www.acrossthedivide.com/openEvents/charityopen_namibia_project.asp
Being a Facilities Manager, this will definitely challenge my building skills - and maybe help me learn a few new practical skills along the way. This will be a nice change from just managing building works! The project will be physically demanding; with a short trek to and from the project site every day, along with a long day working in the heat. The other challenge is to raise as much money as I can for a charity of my choice - which is Just A Drop. They are an amazing charity who provide clean water all over the world, and with the funds we raise, we hope to provide clean water to a new community. I'm funding all the travel and trip costs personally, so all sponsorship raised is going to this worthwhile cause.

Some more information on the trip:
The Anixab community at Sorris-Sorris live along the Ugab river bed in Damaraland and consists mostly of Damara speaking people, with a smattering of Herero folks here and there. They are predominately extensive livestock farmers that eke out a living in the very harsh environment that borders the Namib Desert. The area is vast and children can travel a long way, primarily by foot, to attend the A. Gariseb Primary School, which offers hostel facilities that can accommodate up to 200 pupils. The Government supports the area by providing water and mains electricity but this is all they contribute, with very little support or money from the Government going to maintain or provide supplies for the school. Subsequently the school and the community find it very hard to cope with the costs and maintenance required for learning and education. Whilst some previous renovations have been done to the school buildings they are in a state of disrepair, and we will be undertaking some general renovations to improve the learning environment.
