Story
Race Update - We did it and won! Conditions were very tough and it was a hard race. Simon skippered superbly demonstrating extreme confidence and faith in Catmando and her crew (of 1!) which coped with the force 7 winds admirably. Paul survived with a few bumps and bruises. We know Tony would be extremely proud. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For several years now yacht "Catmando" has taken part in the world famous "Round the Island Yacht Race" (RTI) - The largest yacht race in the world. It is staged around the Isle of Wight and is one of the only races where all sizes and types of craft race under the control of professional and amateur sailors alike and have the opportunity to race against each other. Thousands take part each year.
To date, yacht "Catmando" raced under the command of Anthony Salisbury and his close family, all amateur sailors although Tony had much cruising experience - an RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Instructor who only sailed for his pleasure. RTI was the only race Tony ever took part in!
With great sadness and after a very short illness, Tony passed away on 30th March 2011, having already registered for this year’s race. It was one of his last wishes that Catmando continue this year’s race regardless of his sudden illness and so key members of his family have agreed to continue where Tony left off. This year yacht Catmando will be under the command of Tony’s eldest son with other close family members crewing.
Your support in this venture will encourage those family members who have not sailed for some time (no matter what the weather holds on the day!) but more importantly will demonstrate your sympathy and support for Tony’s sad loss and final wishes.
Thank you so much for whatever you can give.
