My father Brian and I want to raise money for Diabetes UK.
We have chosen to raise money for Diabetes as we recently lost a relative who had the condition. It was quite a shock to lose my cousin David at age 36.He had suffered for a long time with diabetes complicated by bouts of depression, it is his parents wish that the money raised by you all goes to help with diabetes research.
The aim was to do 2 x charity climbs this year, and well I did it. Woo hoo.
Ben Nevis was a real challenge, and wake up call for Kili. With a steep ascent, four seasons in one day with lovely sunshine at the base but 9ft of snow with no visibility and gale force winds at the top.
Kilimanjaro is the world's highest freestanding mountain at 5,895m! It was the toughest thing I have ever done, but eventually after a 6 day trek on the 10.09.09 at 8.20am I reached the 'Uhuru' summit. I hope that the feeling you get from getting to the top will stay with me as long as possible. If I could bottle it, I'd be a rich girl.
