We did it! Slum Survivor again this year, two nights instead of last year's one.
We spent two nights in slums that we made ourselves out of cardboard and plastic sheeting. This is the way many people in the world live everyday.
Building slums in the dusk/dark was difficult, nails got lost and with no torch available, it took a long time to find them again. The first night the weather stayed dry, but incredibly cold, the second night it started to rain and the girls' slum roof collapsed so they evicted some of the leaders from their slum and slept in there (leaving the leaders slumless in the middle of the night!)
The challenges were challenging and everyone felt hungry by the end (the biscuits after church went surprisingly quickly that Sunday!) however we survived and live to tell the tale.
One of the young people said "Last year it was fun, but it was a novelty and not much of a challenge. This year doing 2 nights instead of 1 made you really understand what its like, this year it has been really challenging."
We did this to raise funds for Soul Action to help people that live on only a small amount of rice a day.
