Sing for Water
Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page.
I am going to be singing at the Thames Festival Sing for Water Event on September 11th 2011, as part of Croydon Community Choir. Every singer involved will learn and sing songs for water and raise funds for Water Aid. We do this to say ‘thank you’ for the many songs from different countries that we have received and love to sing.
If each singer raises £50, Sing for Water at the Mayor's Thames Festival will raise £30,000: enough money to provide clean water, improved sanitation and hygiene education to over 2,000 people in Ghana and Malawi.
Water is a critical issue in our world at present. Whilst 70% of the world is water, only 2.75% of this is fresh and drinkable. Pollution from industrial, domestic, nuclear waste is jeopardising this precious resource and every day 14.000 people and innumerable forms of wildlife die from water pollution issues.
Water Aid works with local communities and uses a mixture of low cost technologies to deliver lasting solutions to water issues. They have programmes in 26 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region. Their projects enable communities to achieve a better quality of life and escape the spiral of poverty.
