Cycling Challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support, 29 Sept-11 Oct 2007 Between 29 September and 11 October 2007, I joined around 50 people cycling through the remote and traditional north of Vietnam as part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Vietnam Cycling Challenge. We cycled for 8 consecutive days and covered in excess of 700km. It was an extremely testing physical challenge, cycling over at times very hilly countryside and in rain, sun and through lots of mud. In total we climbed 33, 670 feet which is the height of Everest plus some more!! The event, and the months of preparation and training, were tough but I am did this in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support (reg charity no 261017). Each and every day 739 people in the UK are told they have cancer. More than one million people in the UK today have had a cancer diagnosis, and more than one in three will be diagnosed at some time in their life. As well as taking action today to support people from the moment they suspect they have cancer, Macmillan are shaping the future of cancer care. Their increasing range of services, including Macmillan nurses, doctors and other health and social care professionals, cancer care centres, a range of cancer information, practical help at home and help with money, is funded entirely through the generosity of their supporters. Thanks to the support they receive, Macmillan provides the practical and emotional support which makes a real difference to people living with cancer today – and tomorrow. I know from personal experience the fantastic work that Macmillan do, as we tragically lost my father, Roger Musgrave, to cancer 11 years ago, and his Macmillan Nurse provided us with help and support through what was a very difficult time. Since then Simon has done four Macmillan cycle challenges to raise money for this worthwhile charity. Each time I had an excuse not to go, looking after the children, time off work etc. But now the girls are old enough to look after themselves, I am finally joining him and hoping that between us we can raise even more money!! So for me personally this challenge is in memory of Roger. Thanks to all of our wonderful sponsors we have raised a the minimum of £3,000 each to take part in the event plus some more. The fundraising hasn't stopped yet though and I hope to raise much more than this and all monies raised in excess of the minimum sponsorship benefits Macmillan 100%. I hope that you will dig deep and consider sponsoring me in my challenge, which I am aware is a very minor one compared with the challenge that cancer patients face each day. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support. Celia xxx
