Last September we three boys cycled from Chadlington to Paris. We raised around £2000, but it was terribly hard work, and after a cold night spent on the grubby flagstones outside the Gare du Nord we agreed never to do anything so silly again.
This September we're cycling 1250 miles to Rome. Using our combined wits, we thought that it's the logical European city to head for after conquering Paris, being only five times as far. After all, don't all roads lead to Rome? This will certainly make navigation considerably easier.
When in Rome I would imagine that we will collapse benath the great Flavian amphitheatre, that is the Colosseum. We'll have ridden through four countries, scaled the Alps, camped in woods, sweated out bathfulls under the fierce Tuscan sun, and run out of anti-chafing cream...
The money that you donate to this event will be split equally between the Helen & Douglas House Hospice, in Oxford, and the DEC East Africa appeal. Two excellent causes. The hospice cares and supports young people, and their families, with terminal illnesses, helping them to enjoy life and live it to the full. This newest DEC appeal has sadly not recieved as much money as previous ones, partly due to lack of media coverage, and a detrimental Somalian political situation, but it is no less of a humanitarian disaster. It is in dire need of money.
We are also looking to local businesses to sponor the costs of the venture - i.e. ferry, bike hire, sustenance - in return for advertising, and publicity; we have stories confrimed in media outlets such as the Banbury Guardian and BBC Oxford. Any help from people involved with local businesses would be very much apprieciated .
Thank you for your support.
