Story

Welcome to the JustGiving page for the Borneo Spring Charity Challenge. Please note: ALL the money donated on this page goes straight to the charity directly from JustGiving.

My name is Lukas, a 24 year old (very almost at the quarter of a century mark!) student. I have spent many months planning this charity challenge in Borneo from scratch, which will be physically tough but extremely rewarding.

So far, the team heading to Borneo consists of Mark; Lucy; Juiliet; myself; claudio; Binno; Jack; Andy; Tamsin; Katie; Tom and Dan.

The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, a charity aimed at increasing awareness of depression, reducing the stigma associated with it and improving the NHS mental health services.

The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust aims are outlined below and this is how your donations will be making a difference. The charity aims are:

  • To increase awareness of depression and its symptoms among the general public
  • To encourage and support those suffering from depression to seek professional help
  • To reduce the stigma of depression
  • To introduce education about depression into schools, colleges, universities and the work place
  • To provide more training courses for GPs, Practice Nurses and Primary Health Care Workers.
  • Continue to support and implement mental health initiatives wherever possible
  • Continue to fill gaps in counselling, psychotherapy and CBT.
  • To persuade Government to implement NICE guidelines on mental health.

The CWMT have funded an excellent student resource (http://www.studentdepression.org); are training mental health school workers, specialist nurses and therapists; the 1 in 4 magazine and producing mental health promotion material. I hope you have been persuaded that the CWMT is without doubt, a fruitful cause to raise money for. I hope that you are able to donate money, akin to a building trade, nothing is too small.

Thank you for reading this far down, it's going to be a great challenge,

Lukas and the Challenge Borneo Team!
