Challenge Everest 2008 is Lee Farmer's attempt to summit Mount Everest via the North/North East Ridge. It is a 70 day expedition, starting in March 2008 and ending in June 2008. Accompanied by his wife Nicola Farmer, for the first three weeks of the expedition, this will be spent trekking to the south side of the mountain to the southern Everest Base Camp achieving a height of approximately 5,500 metres. This will aid in acclimatisation and fitness, for the summit attempt proper, which is being tackled by Lee from the north side of the mountain. At the Northern Base Camp the Olypmic torch of the Beijing Olympics 2008 is being carried through the camp to the summit of Everest. At 8,850 metres or 29,038 feet Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. Lee will enter the death zone at approximately 8,000 metres where the amount of oxygen present cannot sustain human life. Lee will be using supplemental oxygen.
