If you're here, it means like us you want to help Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO).
We are a team of 11 who left for Malawi on 23rd May to cycle in the Southern most district of Malawi and hike Mount Mulanje. But most importantly we went to spend time with the 5,000 (and growing) orphans of FOMO.
We distributed aid from two 40ft containers, helped with the feeding programme, danced with the nursery class orphans and helped in any which way we could.
One of our team trained a FOMO member of staff in massage which will in turn help those orphans with HIV to stimulate blood cells to prolong life.
Malawi has one of the highest rates of HIV in the World, a staggering one in seven has HIV/aids, resulting in over 1,000,000 orphans. Please donate what you can now. The money donated goes directly to FOMO. Friends of Mulanje Orphans was established in 2000. Since then, it has operated with only voluteers, this means your money does not get wasted on heavy administration costs, instead it goes on feeding, educating and paying for the healthcare needs of 5,000 orphans.
FOMO will provide over 1.8 million meals in 2009. Just £100 feeds all 5,000 orphans for one day.
FOMO will pay for all its orphans to go to school and ensure that each and everyone of them has shoes and clothes to go to school. Just £50 pays for one orphan to go to school for one year.
FOMO will pay for all the healthcare needs of all its orphans in 2009 as it has done for all the years it has been helping in Malawi. Historically, FOMO has provided healthcare by paying at a local private clinic. From 1st June 2009, FOMO employs a nurse and has contracted the services of a local doctor to commence work in FORU - FOMO OutReach Unit. FORU has been built over the last 12 months and will provide facilities for orphans with HIV or Malaria, or any of the other life threatening illnesses in everyday life for Malawian children. It is hoped this centre will help educate friends and families of orphan children and prevent illness rather than simply react. Just £10 pays for 5 children to sleep safe at night under a mosquito net, to prevent them from contracting Malaria.
Thank-you for whatever help you can offer. Please be sure to give us some encouragement in the comment section and please don't forget to gift aid your donation.
