Story

On the 2 September 2008 Next Generation Club Leicester has kindly agreed to let the children, parents and teachers of Stoneygate School take part in a sponsored swim using their pool.

We hope that the team will cover a total distance of approximately 26 miles which equals swimming the English Channel!  Children of all ages will be taking part aged 3 and over and including all the current leavers of Stoneygate.

Jemima Invites was created when Jemima Sellicks, a 9 year old pupil at Stoneygate School, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in June last year.  Since then Jemima has received horrendous chemotherapy and suffered enormous side effects.  She is an extremely brave little girl who has insisted on leading as normal a life as possible.  In partnership with Hope Against Cancer Jemima Invites have undertaken to fund a research fellowship looking specifically into the diagnosis and treatment of ALL.

Jemima loves swimming so this is a very fitting event in which she is intent on taking part.

We have funded over 100 research projects tackling many forms of cancer. In 2012 we opened a dedicated clinical trials centre at Leicester Royal Infirmary to offer patients access to new medicines and therapies. We also fund two nurses who add to the care and support trials patients receive.
