I usually run the London Marathon and use it as an opportunity to raise money for charity.
This year, 2011, I'm using Ironman UK as a charity chaser instead. You can read more at the Ironman UK website but essentially the Ironman is a very long triathlon - a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, and THEN I get to do a full 26.2 mile marathon - all to be completed within a 17 hour cut-off. (I usually make things harder for myself by stopping to chat and offer Polo mints to marshals on the marathon route.)
I am raising money through Rotary as their members volunteer a lot of the marshalling - and it means you help a spread of good causes with your donation, including children's hospices, cancer charities, life education centres, "Help for Heroes", and air ambulance.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Cheers, Ch.
