The Children's Heart Federation is the national charity and the umbrella body for voluntary organisations across the UK and Ireland working to meet the needs of children and young people affected by congenital and acquired heart conditions.
My wonderful niece, Ruby, was born 6 years ago with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect. The first couple of years of Ruby's life were incredibly frightening and challenging for our family, with Ruby undergoing a number of operations including open heart surgery. The great news is that she is now a strong, healthy little girl (and would probably be more capable than I am of running 10km!).
HeartLine, which is a member group of the Children's Heart Federation (CHF), was a great support to my sister and our whole family. I recognise that you probably get loads of requests for sponsorship and times are hard for many at the moment with the economic crisis, but I would really appreciate it if you could sponsor me (even just a few quid) to run the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on 1 June in Dublin and raise funds for this valuable Federation.
How your donations could help:
- £10 would pay for the CHF to send the parents of a newly diagnosed heart child a comprehensive information pack;
- £70 would pay to give a child a special Christmas stocking full of toys on the CHF Lapland trip;
- £100 would enable the CHF to make a grant towards travel costs to parents who may live many hours drive from the hospital where their child is being treated;
- £200 would buy a specially adapted buggy to help a child who cannot walk without becoming breathless to go on outings with their family;
- £600 would cover the cost of purchasing medical equipment for a heart child and training a family to use it, dramatically reducing the number of visits that the child needs to make to hospital
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Children's Heart Federation gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
