Story
Update: Charlotte has now completed her challenge & collected her medal!
It is a great pleasure to let you all know that Charlotte successfully completed her challenge on 24th May 2012 and was presented with her medal at Stoke Mandeville Stadium by Paralympic gold medallist winners Sophie Christiansen and Dan Bentley. She enjoyed the huge round of applause and we are all very proud of her. The day was a great success with so many children with physical disabilities completing their 2012 Paralympic challenges. The children and the staff are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you so much for all your support in donating to such a worthwhile cause.
Caroline, Richard, Amelia & Charlotte
Our daughter - Charlotte
As many of you know, our four year old daughter Charlotte was born 8 weeks premature, along with her sister Amelia, in August 2007. Charlotte was the recipient of twin to twin tranfusion.
Charlotte has cerebral palsy (the physical disability affecting movement as a result of damage to the brain), speech and language disorder, neurological problems, global developmental delay and a tethered spinal cord. She continues to require a daily regime of occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy. If you’ve met Charlotte you’ll know that she’s a very happy and loving little girl with a wonderful personality who has made real progress, but continues to struggle with acquiring some of the basic skills we all take for granted.
What is so special about the PACE centre that Charlotte attends?
Charlotte receives support once a fortnight from an amazing centre for disabled children, called the PACE centre (http://thepacecentre.org). Charlotte has been attending PACE for over 3 years now and the progress she has made with their support is truly amazing. The work that PACE do with Charlotte continues to be really important in helping her and the other children they support, so anything you could give would be very much appreciated
PACE is a charity based in Buckinghamshire that gives developmental assistance to physically disabled children who find learning everyday skills difficult. PACE believe in each child's ability to learn despite their disability and provide an inspirational environment, motivating children with physical disabilities to work hard at achieving goals. Help includes physical, social, communication, academic and self-care skills.
What is Charlottes challenge?
To raise funds for the wonderful work that PACE do, Charlotte has been tasked with a 2012 Olympic themed challenge:
"I will jump with my feet together in and out of five hoops, arranged in a slalom course". She will complete her challenge at a special “Children’s Challenge” day at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on 24 May.
