Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am scared of heights but I agreed to do a tandem parachute jump on the 8th of May to raise money for the Bhopal Medical Fund http://bhopal.org/. We set off for Oxfordshire at 5.30 am on Saturday the 8th and arrived at 7.30 am. Sadly they said the weather was too wet and windy for the jump to take place. We tried again on the 18th of June but once again the weather was too wet and windy - it was actually beautiful weather when we set off to drive to the airfield but got worse and worse on route. Now we are trying again on Friday the 3rd of September. 'Third time lucky' we hope! The Jump will take place at Sibson Airfield near Peterborough. We have already had some training - so I am trying to visualise the things I need to do at different stages of the jump - feet tucked in - or is it legs straight out? (Oh dear!)
The Bhopal Medical Fund is a very worthy cause. The Bhopal disaster happened in 1984 when a chemical factory blew up in Bhopal and poisoned the local population through the clouds of toxic gas that escaped in the explosion and the chemicals which drained into water supplies. Although this happened 26 years ago people are still suffering from gas and water poisoning.
The Bhopal Medical Fund estimates that the current death toll from the disaster stands at 20,000 and that 120,000 survivors are chronically ill and in need of medical attention. Bhopal Medical Fund is a Brighton based charity which provides free medical care for people in Bhopal.
