Thanks so much for coming to my page.
As many of you know, Charlotte was born with a rare condition called congenital Hypo-thryoidism.
What does this mean for Charlotte ? She was born with no thyroid gland. (approx 150 births per year). The thyroid controls your growth, development and mental function. Thankfully the newborn screening program, tests for the thyroid function, so she started treatment @ 2 weeks old and the daily dosage of thyroxin is a one to one replacement for what your body naturally produces. Charlotte has regular blood tests to monitor her thyroxin levels, growth and development and all indications are that her development is completely on track.
Why are we raising money ? Rob and I received and continue to receive fantastic support from the Royal Berkshire Childrens Clinic, Kempton Day bed unit, GP and Health visitor, and felt we would like to give something back.
I am currently discussing options on how to use any funds raised with staff in the Childrens Clinic and once I have more details I will update this page. (NB: The Reading and District Hospitals Charity is an overall umbrella and our funds will be transferred to the Childrens Clinic.)
I plan to run the 10 k Abbey Dash in Leeds on 23rd November 2008. Last year I ran it in just under 1 hr 10 mins (whilst carrying an extra 3 stone !). My goal this year is to run it under 1 hr aiming for around 58 minutes.
Thank you so much for taking the time to come to this page and offering to support this fund raising goal.
For those of you that have met Charlotte, know that she is full of spirit and her little giggle will spur me around the Abbey Dash
