Story

In the summer of 2012, I am planning to go to Ladakh in Northern India on a trip organized by the Lotus Flower Trust and my school. In the past the Trust has been involved in many charitable building projects in India and Winchester College has worked with them closely for the last four years, with students from Winchester being involved in the building of schools and an orphanage. The purpose of the 2012 trip is to assist in the building an extension to a nunnery, already begun by The Lotus Flower Trust in 2007. We hope to begin the building of a kitchen, a store room, 3 bedrooms and the installation of a water pump. The nunnery stands at around 5500m, set into the rocky mountainside; as well as the possibility of suffering altitudesickness, there is, in addition, no road link to the nunnery and we will be carrying all building materials as a 'human chain' from the road; it will therefore be a very challenging task.Their main purpose is to take in orphans who have nowhere else to go. Before I set off I hope to raise £1000, to do this the team (25 of us) and I are swimming, running and rowing the distance to Ladakh from Winchester (10,540 Km). Any money raised will go straight to building project. I would appreciate any support you are able to give me.
