Story

In May 2016 my nightmare began, after 20 weeks of agonising pain and bleeding I had enough so I visited my local GP surgery for her to do some tests and tell me my HCG levels were extremely high so I was more than likely about 20 weeks pregnant. HUGE shock as it was we went for the scan to find there was no baby. Thats when everything got complicated. I was rushed to the Royal Gwent Gynaecology Department to undergo more tests and scans, the results come back and the doctor explained they think its a molar pregnancy but need to remove the tissue as soon as possible to be sure of what it is, next thing you know I'm rushing home to give my 7 month old daughter Summer a good night kiss before I have my first ever operation the following morning. On my way back to hospital all I did was google, google, google and thats when I started overthinking all I could read was cancer, cancer, cancer as I was chatting away to the doctor I asked what this really meant and they told me not to worry as it hardly ever turns cancerous its extremely rare for that to happen so I didnt think too much more about it. It was about 7 days post op and I had the results back, it was confimed a complete molar pregnancy so I was referred straight to Charing Cross Hospital for monitoring on a weekly basis, so that's what I did every week I was at my GP surgery having my blood tests constantly ringing the Charing Cross team to make sure my HCG level was decreasing and it was!

Little did I know the nightmare hadn't really began yet. It was late August 2016, 4 months after my operation and I began to feel very unwell so I left it a few days before I thought to ring Charing Cross for my weekly results 'Well have to keep a very close eye on this now Chelsea as your levels are increasing we might need to assess you here at Charing Cross'.

Friday 21st October at 3.30am there we was making our trip to London, 'I will be fine well be on our way home soon' .. That was my positive thinking little did I know I would be spending my next 6 nights away from my beautiful girl to start chemotherapy, thats when the real nightmare begun. 6 sleepless nights, and 7 days that felt like 7 years but I was finally allowed home to complete the rest of my chemotherapy for another 2 months where I faced challenges along the way were I was so close to giving up the side effects got so bad but I didn't I carried on fighting as I knew it had to be the final leg and I was on the road to recovery. And I was right, I conquered it and I can happily say I've reached my normal HCG level.

My story just gives an outline which was by far one of the most challenging years of my life yet having a energetic 1 year old and undergoing cancer treatment is not an easy task but I am glad to look back and say we did it, not just me but my amazing partner Dean, my family and my friends. Many others with my diagnosis have not been so fortunate and they have often been in my thoughts.

Now lets live life, and raise awarness not just for Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) but for all them people fighting cancer across the UK and them caring for those with cancer too. No matter how little or large the donation may be, your making a difference and from the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank you personally.
