In September 2009 I will be heading out to Chile to undertaking a 375km cycle over a diverse range of terrain in order to raise vital funds to support the work of Computer Aid.

The terrain will be an exciting combination of tarmac and dusty red-earth off road trails, far away from the modern comforts of daily life. This should prove to be an unforgettable experience.

Computer Aid International provides the highest-quality, professionally refurbished computers for reuse in education, health and not-for-profit organisations in developing countries. Computer Aid provide a free decommissioning service to businesses in the UK, refurbishing the decommissioned PC's to be sent out to less developed countries where the PC's can be put to good use.

I chose to undertake this challenge for Computer Aid as having benefited from a career in I.T. and access to computer equipment during my education, I want to help provide the same advantages to children in less developed parts of the world. Being a bit of an environmentalist it also seems a very sensible idea to be reusing old (but perfectly functional) computer equipment that may have otherwise been sent to landfill here in the UK.
