We remind young people to check their boobs to ensure more people survive breast cancer

Story

I am running the Birmingham International Marathon on Sunday 15th October in support of CoppaFeel - a charity that aims to help prevent late diagnosis of breast cancer and promote good boob checking habits in people young and old.

I was inspired to run for CoppaFeel by Sarah, a passionate supporter of the charity, who died from breast cancer in March this year, aged just 32. Sarah was a close friend of a close friend of mine (we had all been travelling together as students). When Sarah was first diagnosed 5 years ago, the shock that breast cancer could happen to someone so young and healthy hit me hard.

CoppaFeel are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to install a new healthy habit that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and ensure the nation is checking their boobs regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.

Following her diagnosis, Sarah got involved with CoppaFeel as soon as she could. She joined the 'Boobettes' and over the next five years threw herself behind their campaign, helping promote awareness in young people to check their boobs.

Sarah's positivity is an inspiration to me and her story a reminder of how brief life can be - so please support CoppaFeel and help to prevent breast cancer from taking more lives.
