What Am I doing? 
With a group of like minded people I am trekking around 67.5km (approx 42miles) over six consecutive days in the South African Wilderness. The facilities will be basic throughout.

We shall be visiting the beautiful countryside in this remote part of South Africa as we make our way from cape to coast over tough and changing terrain. We’ll trek through forests, nature reserves and up, over and down hills...until the last day of the challenge where we take on climbing Table Mountain!

As you can imagine, I will have to be pretty fit for this and Ihave been training for months to get in a state of “peak” ( excuse the pun) fitness.

I have pledged to raise £3,250 and have personally paid the costs of the trip, so you sponsor money all goes to Breast Cancer Care.

Fundraising so far has included a cake sale, a car boot sales, a sponsored walk,  and of course, generous donations from friends and family.

Why am I doing it?
I love boobies! Taking good care of your breasts (men too don't forget) is important. Any form of cancer is undesirable and unpleasant, but by being breast aware, you could reduce the impact by spotting any changes early.

This fundraising trek is to raise awareness, and money to fund Breast Cancer Care’s work supporting those affected by breast cancer across the UK.

I know many people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer, and, as with any cancer or illness, the FREE support given is invaluable.

A couple of years ago I took part in Habitat for Humanity in North Carolina (USA) which was a really rewarding experience. I have also worked for a couple of charities in the past (Derby Law Centre and Amber Valley CVS) and I want to do something that will raise a lot of money for another charity that I believe in, as well as take on a personal challenge.

By doing this trek, I want to raise awareness as well as raise money. We all have a responsibility to look after ourselves and keep an eye on our health.

What do Breast Cancer Care do?
Breast Cancer Care provide support and information services, which include a national helpline, website, publications, and practical and emotional support.

These services are for women and men with breast cancer, and their partners, families and friends; those who fear they may have breast cancer or who have other breast health concerns; members of the general public; health professionals; and the media. Breast Cancer Care also offers breast awareness and screening information.

All Breast Cancer Care services are provided free of charge but obviously cost the charity to provide them. To get a good idea of how your donation could be spent see below…

£5 - Allows one person to access the online chat forum and share experiences with other people affected by breast cancer at any time of the day or night

£10 - Will provide accurate, easy-to-read and vital information booklets for 50 women with breast cancer.

£35 - Will cover the cost of the free confidential helpline, offering crucial one-to-one support and information to anyone affected by breast cancer.

£95 - Will mean Breast Cancer Care can connect someone facing breast cancer for the first time to a local volunteer who will give that person the opportunity to talk face-to-face about their experiences of breast cancer.

£400 - Will pay for a volunteer to be fully trained to provide emotional support and information to people with breast cancer

£580 - Will allow 10 people to attend a HeadStrong course which is for people who have lost their hair from chemotherapy. Specially-trained volunteers show people how to tie scarves in a variety of styles, give advice on caring for a sore and dry scalp and talk through any concerns people may have about their hair loss.

Please give generously to help Breast Cancer Care continue the valuable work they do, and also, to remind people (men and women) to check themselves on a regular basis.
