Drunken bravado and the motivation to preserve its image as the coolest law firm on the planet has led to four solicitors from niche media practice, Wiggin LLP, to participate in the Polar marathon in Greenland later this month.
Partner, Shaun Lowde, and associates Chris Hammond, Alex Lea and Ross Sylvester will complete the 26.2 miles in sub-zero temperatures on 22 October.
Shaun Lowde, leader of the expedition, said: “The boys are no strangers to pushing their bodies to the limits (inside and outside of the office) and training has gone well although it’s very difficult to prepare for temperatures of up to -15 even during the English summer months – I think the difficulty is that no one knows quite what to expect. Oh, and the slippery, icy conditions and polar bears…”
The marathon is run on the Greenland ice sheet, snow and gravel. The quartet had assumed that going would be relatively flat and had hoped to achieve the marathon in a competitive time although closer inspection of the route has revealed a few perilous ups and downs with dangers including hidden crevasses, falling ice glaciers, hypothermia and polar bears.
The boutique West End firm who are more used to jogging up and down between the pubs and restaurants of Charlotte Street will be running the marathon to raise money for their chosen charity, CCP – County Community Projects - who aim to improve the lives of children, young people and families by providing vital support to those who need it most in Gloucestershire (where the firm’s headquarters is based).
