My cousins wee boys story.

Lewis suffers from the condition called Scoliosos basically neaning curvature of the spine. He was diagnosed aged 8 where he wore a back brace to prevent the curve from getting worse. He had to wear this 23 hrs a day. Unfortunately after a year of wearing this we got told the curve was so severe that the brace could not hold the curve and if they didnt operate lewis would ultimately die as the curve was pressing on his vital organs. Usually this type of operation is done when they are finished growing but Doctors at the sick kids had nochoice but to operate. Lewis went through the 12 hr operation to put titanium rods in his back on the 21st December. There were a few complications and Lewis was in intensive care he also has type 1 diabetes which made the recovery much longer. They have managed to get the curve from 83 degrees to 16 degrees but Lewis faces more operations as he gets older as he is no where near finished growing. He has also developed hypermobility syndrome so has constant pain in his legs and ankles. Someone who i knew put me in touch with strongbones and they contacted me to offer Lewis an ipad as he is and will continue to go through alot as he gets older. 

STRONGBONES CHILDREN'S CHARITABLE TRUST

They Give grants to children with bone conditions.They also have 2 holiday homes which they give out to disabled children whos parents couldnt afford a holiday. They give the cost of petrol and £250 spending money. Some of the grants are for help towards wheelchairs etc. Alot of the children have more than 1 condition.
