Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for the SANDS (Stillborn and Neonatal Deaths Society) charity, they provide support for parents affected by the loss of a child and funds to help in the research of child deaths.
4 years ago my Wife and I lost our first Son Gabriel at only 3 days old. His death was caused by complications during pregnancy and he was born at 31 weeks. His life was short and traumatic and his death left us heartbroken. During the time after Gabe's death I talked to friends about how I would like to raise money for a worthwhile charity to try and help prevent as many tragic child deaths as possible.
In early 2010 I decided, along with my cycling partner Mark, to tackle a long distance mountain event in order to raise money for charity. We trawled the internet for an event that would give us the time we needed to train for the challenge (and believe me I need the training) as well as being close enough for us to participate.
We finally decided on the Brecon Beast on the 12th September. We are planning to cover 71km on the day, tackling some of the most exposed terrain in south on our Mountain Bikes.
The training has begun in earnest over the past few weeks with us averaging 25 km each ride. With 3 months to go the pressure is on to push for the 35km target. I will be soon be posting pictures of the training and give you a flavour of the type of the biking we will be doing.
