Story

WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY, EVEN IF IT WAS A BIT TOO HOT!! I'M PLEASED TO SAY THAT I FINISHED IN A FEW MINUTES OVER 4 HOURS, WHICH MIGHT HAVE BEEN A FEW MINUTES LESS IF I HADN'T BEEN RUNNING WITH SOMEONE FOR THE LAST HALF MILE OR SO (IF YOU READ THIS, WELL DONE MEL...YOU DID IT! ).  NO WORRIES ABOUT THE TIME THOUGH...WHAT I REALLY WANTED TO DO WAS FINISH, AND I HAVE THE MEDAL TO PROVE THAT I DID.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO WATCHED OUT FOR ME AT THE EVENT AND ON TV, AND A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED. YOUR SUPPORT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. THE OFFLINE FIGURE NOW INCLUDES £500 THAT WILL BE DONATED BY MY EMPLOYER ONCE ALL THE DONATIONS HAVE BEEN COLLECTED.

CHEERS ALL!

CHRIS

P.S. I KNOW I SAID IN THE RUN UP TO SUNDAY THAT THIS WAS MY FIRST AND ONLY LONDON MARATHON, BUT THERE'S NOTHING THAT SAYS I CAN'T CHANGE MY MIND...SO MY NAME IS NOW IN THE BALLOT FOR NEXT YEAR. HERE'S HOPING...

...and for the record, I am in no way affiliated with The Hampshire Swingers Association or the Pampas Grass Preservation Society (assuming they actually exist), although it would seem that one or two of my 'friends' may be familiar with those organisations! ;-)

*************************************************************************

Thanks to my local running club, Liss Runners, I have the opportunity to not only run this year's Flora London Marathon but also to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. The charity that I'm aiming to raise funds for is SNAP (Special Needs and Parents).

SNAP is an Essex-based registered charity that provides support for families and carers of children with special needs and/or disabilities. SNAP's provisions include parent and pre-school children groups, telephone support and information, a specialist library, seminars and training courses, children's and young people's activities, music therapy, drama therapy, sibling support, and social events for families. For more information, including SNAP's latest newsletter, you can visit their website via the link at the foot of this message.

Please give generously. SNAP is entirely dependent upon donations for its continuing existence, and every pledge will go a long way to enabling SNAP to continue providing invaluable support.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. SNAP will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK tax payer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

On behalf of SNAP and myself, thank you for visiting my fundraising page and for your support!

All the best

Chris

TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS - UPDATE 20th APRIL - ONE WEEK TO GO!

DATE                DISTANCE            TIME  (APPROX.)                    PER MILE

8th Feb             16.9 miles            2hrs 15mins                             8:00

16th Feb       10.0 miles        1hr 13mins                      7:21

22nd Feb      20.0 miles        2hrs 49mins                     8:27

1st March     9.5 miles          1hr 11mins                      7:29

9th March     10.2 miles        1hr 19mins                      7:46

I'm taking a well earned break from the road training to give my shin splint a chance to heal but I'll be keeping up the training with plenty of endurance cycling.

29th March    10 miles          1hr 18mins                      7:46

Back on the road again after a 3 week lay off. The injury is still there but it's getting better thanks to my physio. Only 4 weeks to go!

11th April       10.2 miles      1hr 21mins                      7:55

13th April       13.5 miles      1hr 47mins                      7:56

Another 2 week lay off thanks to the shin splint, but the interim has been filled with lots more cycling. This weekend's runs were planned easy ones and felt pretty good, so all looks ok for the 26th. Glad I've got physio tomorrow though... :-)

17th April        10.2 miles       1hr 22mins                    8:03

20th April        10.2 miles       1hr 21mins                    7:59

With just a week to go, it's time to start winding down the training. Thanks to my shin splint, I'm nowhere near as prepared as I would like to be, but a few days rest between now and next Sunday will mean I'll be fine to run, even if it might hurt a bit. If anyone had asked me to predict a finishing time back in February, I would have said 3 1/2 hours at a push but the lack of road training since then plus the injury means I'll be happy just to keep running right through to the finish...and anything inside 4 hours will be a bonus.
