WELL I'VE DONE IT!!     UPDATE 27th May

It's now Tuesday morning & the weekend has just started to catch up with me - wow it was a tough 'un!

As said first of all it was the Jim Clark national rally on Saturday, following a couple of days recce'ing the route & writing pace notes. We left the start at 9am for 100 miles of special stages over closed roads in the Scottish Border area. The BMW MINI Cooper 'S'  ran well all day, only a 3rd gear selection problem hampering our progress, but we managed to finish 9th overall & second in class.

From there it was up to Edinburgh, arriving at the campsite about 9.30p.m. then a few hours sleep & up at 6am to get some breakfast & a taxi into the centre for the start.
Good atmosphere & the race went off at 9am, unfortunately I think I may have set off a bit too quick! The first half passed in a blur of 1hr32min, a similar time to my half marathon race in Keswick - oops. And all this was into a vicious headwind which blew all the way to the turn-round point at mile 17!!!
Coincidentally this was about the time when things started to go a bit wrong, first I had to make an unscheduled pit stop, this didn't cost me too  much time though. Unfortunately things went a bit downhill then. I got a nosebleed  at mile 19 and by mile 20 I began to think that the world may just fall out of my behind!! Luckily the roadside Co-Op came to my rescue by letting me use their loo, I thought I was never going to be able to get off!!!
Anyway, I managed to stagger to the end in what turned out to be a very respectable time of 3hr27min42sec!!!
So I'm over the moon with that - on behalf of Pendleside Hospice & myself thanks to everyone who has contributed so far, & if you were waiting to see if I'd do both events before you contributed - I did so what are you waiting for .

Thanks again

Chris

Update - Well I've now been allocated my start number - 1430, all I need to do now is turn up & finish! Now starting to reduce my mileage in preparation, don't know if it'll make any difference, mind!!
As a prelude I took part in the Keswick 1/2 marathon over Mayday weekend, a great race over some fantastic, if a little hilly, terrain. Managed to finish in 1hr32min23secs, 56th overall out of field of over 500 so quite pleased with that. Lets hope it doesn't affect me for the big 'un! Thanks again to everyone who's contributed so far

Over the Bank Holiday Weekend of 24th & 25th May, I will be competing in two completely different sporting events, & would like to try & raise as much money as possible for Pendleside Hospice, a hospice located in Reedley, Lancashire.

On Saturday 24th May. I will be taking part in the Jim Clark National rally, a tarmac car rally on closed roads around the town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders.
I will be co-driving for Dan Harper in a Minisport of Padiham prepared BMW MINI Cooper ‘S’.
For more information see www.jimclarkrally.com

Following this event, it’s up the road to Edinburgh to compete in the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 25th May.
This will be my first marathon, & taking part in a rally the day before may not be the best preparation, but training is going well so far, & rest assured any donation you make will be safe – I WILL be finishing this!!!
