My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I have always had 'The Marathon' down as one of those things I wanted to do in life - I have put it off for too long and 2012 is the year!
I am delighted that Health Poverty Action provided me with a marathon place. I would now like to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy charity. Please give as much money as you can and help families.
I have done many runs before but nothing like the marathon so this is a massive step up - I will give it all I can, I don't have any times to beat - it would just be a great achievement to complete such an historic event.
Lizzie Helps from Health Poverty Action said: "We are delighted the Chris is supporting Health Poverty Action by running in the 2012 London Marathon. His sponsorship will make a huge difference as in most areas where we operate, Health Poverty Action is the only organisation bringing life-saving health care and health education directly to the heart of communities. Good luck Chris and we look forward to watching you cross the finish line in April!" This is what Chris’s sponsorship money will go towards –
· £5 - Pays for a child to be fully immunized against diphtheria, polio, tetanus and TB in remote communities in Burma.
· £10 - Prevents malaria by distributing mosquito nets to families around the world.
· £25 - Buys radios to help raise awareness of life threatening diseases such as HIV in countries like Rwanda and Cambodia.
· £50 - Trains community volunteers to deal with preventable diseases such as malaria, TB and HIV.
· £100 - In Sierra Leone £100 could provide life saving medicines during a childbirth emergency.
· £1,000 - Buys scales to monitor the weight of malnourished children in remote villages.

My charity
Health Poverty Action
Charity Registration No. 290535
Health Poverty Action works with the world's poorest communities - those missing out on mainstream aid. We help mothers give birth safely and their children thrive, prevent the spread of diseases like HIV and malaria and challenge the injustices of poverty and poor health.
It is said that prevention is better than cure. That's why we believe in the power of education to stop health problems happening. Examples include our award-winning radio soaps educating people on issues such as HIV (one of which has become the most popular radio show in East Africa).
Poverty and poor health are inseparable. Our comprehensive approach strengthens health services and addresses underlying causes of poor health such as water, sanitation and nutrition. At the same time we campaign to change the systems that perpetuate poverty. We want to 'cure' the lack of healthcare - not just stick a plaster over the problem.
