Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

On the 26 April 2009, I will be moving on to the real running stage and attempting to get around the course of the Flora London Marathon in mremory of Tom Hitt and in aid of the Children’s Leukaemia charity, ‘CLIC Sargent’.

It is nearly 4 years now since we lost Tom to Leukaemia,  at the tender age of 16 years and 10 months.  Tom was the son of my best friend Dave, who I have grown up with and known since he himself was eleven.  Our two families have spent many great times and holidays over the years together, which have given us some great memories, before Tom was struck with this dreadful disease of ‘Myloid’ Leukaemia.

Over a 6 month period, he went from a perfectly normal teenager, young, fit, good looking, cheeky with attitude, popular, sporty and talented, to be cruelly taken from us long before his time.  Since his passing in such a cruel and untimely way, his father Dave and I have been ‘running and running’.  We had never done any before although have always played football and kept 'modestly' fit.  We have run 9 half marathons each over recent years and have decided on one last challenge with the pinnacle that is the Flora London Marathon. Dave is running for Children with Leukaemia and I for CLIC Sargent, both extremely worthy recipients of our fund raising efforts.

It seems there is no end to the sad stories about children being struck with Leukaemia.  I have recently had news of another friend Helen, who has a little lad called Leo, 4 years old now. He has been having extensive treatment and has been looked after and supported at the Bristol Children’s Hospital, with his family staying in a CLIC Sargent funded house, during this most difficult of times for them all. This is where a great deal of this money can so obviously be seen as a real god send, not to mention the investment in a cure for this dreadful and often fatal disease.

I know times are tough and there are so many worthy charities fighting for everyone’s spare cash, but if you would consider supporting my efforts in this event, I would be very, very grateful.

Thanks for listening,

Chris
