DUE TO THE PROBLEMS IN TIBET AND CHINA MY TRIP TO CLIMB EVEREST VIA THE NORTH SIDE WHICH IS IN TIBET HAS BEEN POSTPONED FOR A YEAR. CHINA ORIGINALLY SAID THAT THEY WOULD CLOSE THE NORTH SIDE WHILE THEY TRIED TO TAKE THE OLYMPIC FLAME TO THE TOP OF EVEREST BUT THIS STILL LEFT US WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO CLIMB AFTER THEY HAD FINISHED. THINGS HAVE NOW CHANGED. THE PROBLEMS IN TIBET HAVE MEANT THAT THE NORTH SIDE IS CLOSED COMPLETELY AND THE SOUTH SIDE (IN NEPAL) HAS BIG RESTRICTIONS ON CLIMBING IT. THE NEPAL / TIBET BORDERS ARE ALSO CURRENTLY CLOSED. I HAVE AGREED WITH JUST GIVING (PROVIDERS OF THIS WEB-SITE) THAT THIS WEB-PAGE WILL STAY IN PLACE FOR THE NEXT YEAR. I WILL PICK UP THE BATTON OF RAISING SPONSORSHIP AT THE BEGINNING OF NEXT YEAR. Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, I hope this means you are thinking about sponsoring me. I have decided to split any money I raise equally between 2 causes both of which are close to my heart. Firstly, The Prostate Cancer Charity, because as some of you know my father died back in 1992 of prostate cancer. Secondly, the Sherpa communities of Tibet and Nepal. After my experience on Cho Oyo in September of last year, I was hugely touched by the gentle, generous and kind nature of the Sherpa people. These extremely tough people work tirelessly helping climbers reach a lifetime dream often putting their lives at risk to ensure that we get back safely. I think it is only right that 50% of the sponsorship money I raise goes back into the Sherpa communities to help fund schools, hospitals and other community projects. I will be working with Russell Brice, expedition leader of our trip to Everest, co-founder of a Swiss based charity, Friends of Humanity, and a big and generous supporter of the Sherpa communities to find appropriate projects where the money can make a direct and big difference. Please give generously, I have never asked for sponsorship from you in the past (probably because I have never done anything worthy of sponsorship) but now I am doing the big one so please help me raise some decent cash. I will be leaving on 29th March and returning sometime before 8th June 2008. I hope to post progress reports on http://chrisdovell.blogspot.com please feel free to leave messages on this blog as these will hopefully get through to me on the mountain from time to time. Other information can be found on Himalayan Experience's web site which is http://himex.com Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me. If you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Thank you in advance for your support, Chris.
