My story

We did it!  Here is the proof.  We met some new friends and enjoyed the company of some old ones on the trip.  The 207 miles was a good test for the old legs but no problems at all.  The 50 mile English leg to Newhaven was tough because of the stormy weather, and the 2 hours sleep on the ferry was not the best preparation for 72 miles the next day!  Great fun, though and a huge thank you to all our supporters.

There is still time to give to this great charity!

For anyone who does not know the story, here it is:

As some of you will know Simon was knocked down and killed by a 4x4 vehicle in South Street, Dorking, Surrey on Thursday 17th April 2008. The Surrey Air Ambulance and the other emergency services attended to Simon but they were unable to save his life.

The wonderful crew who tried to save Simon are shown in this picture with us - paramedic Neil; doctor Zane and pilot Steve.

This tragedy has had a traumatic effect on those close to Simon, and so Sarah and I decided to do something meaningful to help those that did everything to try and save his life.

We have since found out a lot about the Air Ambulance service, especially that they are entirely dependent upon charitable donations. It costs considerable sums to keep the Air Ambulance flying.  The helicopters have to be incredibly well equipped to deal with the trauma incidents they attend.  The doctors and paramedics are amongst the highest trained and skilful in the country, as are the pilots.

If you would like to help, donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Surrey Air Ambulance Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
