Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I am a former Royal Marine currently working at Canterbury College as a Sports Lecturer. I left the Corps way back in the mid-'80s and have been doing a variety of jobs ever since. My Grandfather, Father and younger Brother have all served in the military. Because of my close and continued links with the military (I am a member of the Royal Marines Association and the Once a Marine forum) I chose a charity that is naturally close to my heart - The Help for Heroes charity.
The H4H "Band of Brothers Bike Ride" will take place from Sunday 24th May to Saturday 30th May 2009. We will start with a send-off from Portsmouth then cross to Cherbourg and end with a celebration along the Seine in Paris, having made ceremonial visits to the D-Day beaches of Normandy and other historical sites of interest along the way.
We hope to be riding with teams of wounded servicemen and women representing the USA, Canada, France as well as Britain and together we will be a team of 300 cyclists.
However, the 350-odd miles of cycling will not be easy, and the ride will consist of upwards of 80 miles per day in the saddle.
Whilst remembering the efforts of all the WWII heroes, we are also doing this ride to remember and care for the wounded soldiers of today.
The itinerary;
On Day 1 we will depart from Portsmouth to catch the overnight ferry to Cherbourg, leaving the French port the following morning.
Day 2 will see us leaving Cherbourg and heading south and east to Bayeux.
The route for Day 3 takes us from Bayeux to Caen, via the beaches of Omaha, Pont du Hoc and Arromanches.
On Day 4 we head into Lisieux, ariving in Evereux at the end of Day 5.
This leaves the final stretch into Paris for Day 6, which will include the laying of wreaths at the Arc de Triomph and every cyclists dream - a ride up the Champs Elise!
To this end, my intention is to raise a minimum of 3k in sponsorship and for this I will need your help and support.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Help for Heroes gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
