Two years ago I received the devastating news that one of my close friends, Simon Adams, had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and the long term outlook was bleak.  My initial reaction was of heart wrenching sadness that Simon would have to suffer the debilitating effects of this cruel disease. 

Quite simply Simon decided that he would raise £1million for MNDA, hopefully before he died.  Sadly after an immense battle that lasted nearly 3 years Simon passed away last October.  His legacy has continued and at the time of his death Simon had raised in the region of £350,000.  More importantly he has raised massive awareness and indeed last year he won the Justgiving Charity Award.  Unfortunately he was not there to receive the award.

Along with many others not least his couragious wife, Max, we are determined to reach Simon's target of £1million.  Last year I went to the top of Kilimanjaro for the charity and in November of this year myself and Jerry Ryan will be trekking to Everest Base Camp to aclimatise for a summit attempt of a Himalyan mountain called Island Peak, 20,305ft, 6189m.  This is a technical mountain and will be no mean feet!

We will be away for the best part of a month and have already been training, including technical climbing and winter survival courses.  The training really starts in ernest now, as does the fund raising! The cost of the trek has been covered by Helicentre Aviation Ltd which means that every penny donated will go to MND Association and towards Simon's target.  There are not enough characters on this site to give you even a glimpse of Simon's story and his dedication to help rid the world of this cruel disease.
