The Drinks Trust is the charity dedicated to the drinks and hospitality workforce. It strives to empower our people through services designed to assist financially, restore well-being and develop skills, and to do so with compassion and respect.

Story

You may already be aware that I am to become the Chairman of The Benevolent for 2010.  The Benevolent is the Drinks Industry Charity, who support the whole of the UK Drinks Industry.  Its aim is to make a real difference to the lives of those who have worked in the Drinks Industry and now need help.

The Trade Charity is able to provide help through one-off and regular grants, sheltered accommodation, care home facilities, advice and support.  These services are available to anyone whatever age, who has worked in the Industry for more than five years, in any capacity from shops, pubs, breweries, distilleries, warehouses, to marketing and journalism.

Last year, The Benevolent provided financial grants worth over £350,000, and the yearly running cost of the Charity, including the homes and welfare grants currently stands at around £1 million.

It is customary for the Chairman to do one big personal fund raising event in his or her year -
I have decided to "shed pounds to gain £s"

You may have noticed I could do with reducing some weight - and to make it meaningful, and a really challenging goal, I am aiming to lose 100 pounds (between June 2009 and mid March 2010).  I will weigh in on March 11th, 2010 at The Benevolent Ball, for the final weight.

So here comes the pitch!

I am seeking to recruit 100 (minimum) members for a "100 Club" – all who are prepared to pledge £100 - all proceeds for The Benevolent.

Please don't feel this is restricted to you as an individual - if a team wants to pledge the £100, I would be equally grateful!

I also appreciate that some people may wish to pledge another amount - all amounts will be gratefully received!

For those who have already pledge, the opportunity for you now is to confirm your pledge on this website. For those of you who are still considering it I would be extremely grateful for your support.

There will be other opportunities to enter into the process i.e. - guessing my opening and closing weights - in stones and pounds on the night at The Benevolent Ball at The Dorchester.

As of the end of November I've made good progress and I've lost in the region of 60lbs.

I look forward to you seeing a bit less of me in the future.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,

Chris Mason
