Raid Pyrenean 23-27 June 2009

Some of the visitors to this page may remember my bike ride from Lake Geneva over the Alps to the Mediterranean back in 2007.  Not content with that little adventure, I’m off again.

This year I’m cycling the length of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.  Just to add a little something extra to the challenge I’m aiming to complete the whole trip in under 100 hours.  Along with my brother and 18 other like-minded cyclists, we will start with a gruelling first day of 183km from Hendaye, near Biarritz, and hopefully arrive a little under 4 days and 4 hours later in time for lunch on Saturday at Cerbere next to the Med.

The 720km route has over 11,000m of ascent, making a sea level to peak of Mt. Everest climb, at 8,848m, look like a stroll in the park.  We take in some of the classic Tour de France climbs including the famous Col de Tourmalet (2,115m).
