I'm over halfway there now thanks to the support of many of my friends and family....if you can support me please follow the link to my page, thanks
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've decided to trek 100km across the gruelling Sahara Desert in aid of Mary's Meals in October 2012. The days will be tough and extremely hot and the nights very cold and I have been warned there may be frost on the tents in the morning!
NB: this trip is self funded so 100% of your money is going directly to the charity.
Mary's meals is a Scottish charity which began in 2002 as a famine relief project, the charity expanded greatly and now provides over half a million children around the world in developing countries with a daily schoolmeal. The thought behind the concept is that by providing a schoolmeal for children they will be encouraged to attend school and through an education these children will be better equipped to lift themselves from poverty. Malawi is where this project all began and also the country in which it feeds the most children, on average it costs just £6.15 to provide a child with a daily school meal in Malawi for a year....yes an entire year for £6.15. They can keep costs so low by utilising volunteers and using locally sourced foods which in turn also provides an income for those in the local community.
I have set my target optimistically high because I hope to raise the funds to either build a kitchen shelter for an already existing school or to raise the funds to provide a daily schoolmeal for children at a school already equiped with a kitchen shelter.
I truly believe that the work that Mary's Meals carrys out around the world can and will make a difference. Please give what you can and thank you in advance for your donation.
