Big Bad Bike Ride 2013 · 14 September 2013 to 15 September 2013 ·

10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

WELSH MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE (Lake Vyrnwy) 2013

On 14 September I will be cycling 60 miles over and through the challenging Welsh Mountains with over 100 other cyclists. www.bigbadbikeride.com

EVERY penny you donate will go directly to ATAXIA. All funds will be directed into research to try to find a cure for this genetic disorder.

Please sponsor me, help me to help make this cure a reality.

There is a choice... you can always join me on the Mountains!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Ataxia means ‘absence of order’. People with Ataxia have problems with co-ordination. Friedreich’s ataxia is a degenerative neurological disorder which usually becomes apparent in children only when they reach the age of 7 years and upwards. It attacks the central nervous system and by the age of 13 the child will be likely to have to use a wheelchair.

There is currently no cure and no treatment for Friedreich’s ataxia and all the funds raised from the Big Bad Bike Rides have been and will be directed at research projects currently underway in the UK and Europe.

So please dig deep and donate now. EVERY PENNY YOU DONATE WILL GO DIRECT TO ATAXIA. The Big Bad Bike Rides have minimal expenses and most costs are covered by the registration fee or by corporate donations. This means that unlike most charitable fundraising events, every penny donated goes directly to the charity and makes all this hard work worthwhile. The funds raised here have made a huge difference to the sustainability of this small charity that receives no direct government funding.

Thank you!

The BIG BAD BIKE RIDE started in 1991 when Graham Kennedy along with 110 volunteers found their old bikes and cycled from York to Filey.

20 years later, the BBBR is still going strong.
