Story

Dear friend

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I have participated in the BUPA Great Manchester Run. - It is one of the most prestigious 10ks in the world, taking runners on a circular route through the city.  It is also part of the Manchester World of Sport 08 campaign, the single biggest year of sport in Manchester since the 2002 Commonwealth Games.  Your donation will support the British Red Cross to extend & improve their work across the UK and the World.

It is always my intention to support those who are “unfortunately unfortunate”.  Since my graduation in 2004, I have been involved with a numerous charities.  From Nov 2004, I have been supporting Save the Children’s “eProject”: Various programs in Ethiopia: building schools, hospitals, children’s homes etc.  In 2006 & 2007, I had the great opportunity to participate in the WaterAid hosted events – To raise the awareness of the importance of overcoming poverty by enabling the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.  This year, I have decided to choose the British Red Cross to show my support for their achievements and their future involvements.

Aid reaching Myanmar: 15 May 2008 - As the crisis in Myanmar deepens, the Red Cross has sent 16 aid flights carrying emergency supplies to help stricken people in the worst affected areas.  By the time the next aid flight lands tomorrow, the Red Cross will have sent 130 tonnes of aid. This includes: 20,000 mosquito nets, 2,450 tarpaulins and almost 15,000 jerry cans as well as emergency shelter and supplies for 4,500 people and hygiene items for more than 600 people.

China Earthquake Appeal: On 12 May at 14.28 Beijing time, a major earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale rocked Wenchuan County in China’s southwest Sichuan province. The earthquake, which is the worst to hit China since 1976, was followed minutes later by another quake, this time measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, which jolted the Tongzhou District in east Beijing. According to the Red Cross Society of China branch in Sichuan, the force of the earthquake has caused 80 per cent of houses in Wenchuan County to collapse. Schools, factories and hospitals are among major buildings demolished by the quake.  The British Red Cross immediately made a donation (£25,000) from its own Disaster Fund and launched an appeal on 14 May to support the Red Cross Movement’s response.

Please dig deep and sponsor me online - Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Red Cross will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Your money could help:

- £2 pays for a food parcel for someone living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa

- £5 pays for 100 litres of purified water

- £10 pays for a first aid kit for use in an emergency by a Red Cross volunteer

- £100 pays for one tent for a family displaced by conflict or disaster

- £200 pays for a wheelchair to loan to someone with a temporary disability or illness

- £200 pays for training and equipping an emergency response volunteer

- £2,500 pays for ten hand pumps to provide water for a community in Zambia

- £4,000 helps pay for Red Cross' door to door transport service which enables people in the UK who can't get about easily to access vital services such as doctors and dentists

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

May God bless you and those who are suffering!!
