My story

Thank you very much for visiting my fundraising page.

It would be absolutely fantastic if you could sponsor me. I am undertaking a challenge that has fascinated me for a long time and one that I cannot wait to start. Mount Everest or Chomolungma, Qomolangma or Zhumulangma  is the highest mountian on Earth, as measured by the height of its summit above sea level, which is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). Although some 3,500 people have now summited Mt Everest I still think it provides a fantastic challenge both mentally and physically. In addition I will be attempting to summit the mountain from the North side which has had considerably less summiters than the more famous south side.

Most importantly I will be fundraising for a charity that means a great deal to my family and I. My father is Chairman of the Passage and has got me involved in various aspects from fundraising on station platforms to collecting suits from my office.

The Passage is a charity working with street homeless people in Central London, mainly in South Westminster including the areas around the Victoria Stations. The Passage's mission is to provide the resources, which encourage, challenge and inspire homeless people to transform their lives. The mission is carried out through street link work, the provision of a day centre and hostel accommodation.

The street team work late at night or first thing in the morning. Last year they met 831 individuals, mainly encouraging them to return to areas away from Central London but also finding 142 people accommodation. The day centre helped 4,139 individuals providing services ranging from the provision of food, showers, a laundry and clothing to specialist health work, education, training and employment and help in accessing welfare benefits and housing. 496 people were helped to claim welfare benefits which they had not claimed. Our hostels helped 212 people.

The Passage helps homeless people in the Victoria area of London, providing basic care and the means to make a fresh start. Up to 200 people use the day centre each day; the 40 bed hostel is full every night. We depend on voluntary donations as less than half our income comes from statutory sources.
