Land's End to John O' Groats - in Aid of The Army Benevolent Fund
Welcome to my fund raising page and thank you for your interest!
It is over! Having set out from Land's End on Saturday 10th October, I reached John O' Groats on schedule on Monday 19th October at 4.30pm in a gale and driving rain. Apart from Rosemary the place was deserted, not even a seagull!
The distance was 922 miles covered in 10 days. No punctures, no breakdowns; it was a terrific adventure.
This was a solo bike ride, with Rosemary (plus Pippin the Jack Russell), providing admin back up with a campervan all aimed at raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund, whose aims are shown on the left of this page. It is the Soldiers' Charity. During FY 07/08 it paid out £2.2M in grants to charities supporting families in need, the disabled, children and the elderly and £2.3M in grants to individuals. The need to support the fund is probably greater than ever.
The route took me up through Cornwall and Devon, Bristol, Gloucester, Worcester, Telford, Chester, Liverpool, Preston, Kendal, Carlisle, Dumfries, Kilmarnock, Erskine Bridge (Glasgow), Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Fort William, Loch Ness, Inverness, Tain, Wick and John O' Groats.
I do hope you will consider sponsoring me now that I have completed this epic venture!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me. The Army Benevolent Fund gets your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
However, if you would find it easier to write a cheque then please make it out to:
The Army Benevolent Fund and post it to me at:
Bower House, Bower Hinton, Martock, Somerset, TA12 6LG
Thank you so much for your support
