My name is Chris & I'm a marathonaholic. Apparently admitting I have a problem is the first step. Unfortunately I then have to do another 45,000 or so steps to complete the 26.2 miles of the marathon course.
You may already know or may have guessed I am running the London marathon again. This will be my 4th marathon having vowed every year that I wouldn’t do it again. I don't have a specific time target this year having finally beaten the 4:30 barrier last year. It would be nice to improve on my time but completing the course is an achievement in itself. I do however have one target - I want to complete the marathon quicker than all of the people in the 80 plus age category. Last year one person in this category completed the 26.2 miles quicker than I did (by about 10 minutes).
On a more serious note, I am once again raising money for a cause close to my family - the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice near Sheffield. The hospice has recently been used by some family friends and their 16 month old son Callum. Callum was born with a rare brain condition (Lissencephaly) and has severe epilepsy. As a result he has several daily seizures, requires frequent hospitalisation and round the clock care from his family.
Bluebell Wood provides support to families of children with life limiting conditions both at home and by offering the whole family planned periods of respite stay at the hospice. This allows the family to spend some quality time together and for some a chance to get a complete nights sleep for the first time in years.
Bluebell Wood has 8 children's rooms and 7 family rooms which cost £2.4 million a year to run. Less than 4% of this amount is provided by the government so the hospice is dependent on the generosity of people like you.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.Remember to tick the Gift Aid box!
