Story
On the 28th of June this year, aged 41, I’ll be running my first marathon. Not satisfied with running a simple road race, I’ll be running up a mountain in France, attempting the Mont Blanc Marathon. The training has been arduous and already caused some injuries to tendons and knees, but I’m determined to complete the course – even if it takes the full 9 hours allowed to do so.
I am also determined to use this endeavour to help raise awareness of a particular charity my family has been supporting for a number of years and which works on a very small budget but delivers real help to children in Kenya. The charity is Mji wa Neema, Swahili for 'house of hope'. Please have a look at their website here: http://www.saidia-gilgil.org.uk/. UK-based volunteers raise funds to support orphaned children in and around Naivasha and Gilgil, and specifically to fund Saidia Children's Home and related projects for AIDS orphans and other deprived children in the area.
Please help by sponsoring me. I have no doubt that I’ll be in a lot of pain on 28th June, but I have the certainty that it will pass and that within days I’ll be sharing stories of the race safe at home with my friends and family - something which many of the children at Mji wa Neema could only dream of. My goal is modest so please help if you can.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Mji Wa Neema gets your money faster and, if you're a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, is added to your donation.
Thanks for your support,
Chris
