'Wall to Tall'
Update
I did it!! I completed The Wall race, it was great, and I came 4th lady! I never thought that I could actually run 69 miles. Ultra running is a whole new world. I ate my own body weight in Haribos. My teeth are still aching!
For those of you that don't know me my name is Claire Bruce and I am currently a runner for Morpeth Harriers AC and prior to that at North Shields Polytechnic AC. I have completed numerous races, upto half marathon distance and three marathons.
After my last marathon, I realised that I was only getting older and slower and that I needed a challenge that would necessitate the need for slowness and not speed! I also decided that it would be an ideal oportunity to 'give something back' and raise lots of money for my favourite local charity; St Oswalds Hospice. St Oswalds Hospice is an amazing place staffed by amazing people. The hospice need £8.5 million per year to survive and only £2million is provided from statutory authorities, therefore the other £6.5million is raised by donations from generous people like yourselves sponsoring mid-life crisis women like myself.
After a chance conversation, whilst on the physio table, I decided to enter The Wall (a Rat Race event)endurance race (June 2012). Sixty nine miles in two days along Hadrian's Wall and even worse than that camping overnight. I'm far too soft to camp! The thought of the race really scared me so I planned a mental diversion tactic; joining the Hospice's trek up to Kilimanjaro (June2013). Aargh! To be part of the trek I had to pledge to raise a minimum of £3960, 50% of which will go towards the cost of the trip, so the more I raise the better.
So now I have two events to plan and train for, one long and slow and one high and slow.
So please help me to raise lots of money for St Oswald's by donating to this sight.
Thanks for your support.
