BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

'Friends' supports the first children's hospice in Belarus. It provides care at home, in-patient care and respite care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses and their families. Their services are free. Friends is run by unpaid volunteers and our chairwoman speaks Russian fluently and has a place on the hospice's advisory board.

Story

Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm running the Great North Run on the 20th of September for a charity that my Mum is really involved with, "Friends of the Belarussian Children's Hospice".  I think it is a remarkable charity and I am very proud of the work they do in helping disabled children in Belarus.

I am a firm believer that the ultimate aim of a charity should be to facilitate a situation where the organisation is self-sufficient and independent of foreign/outside aid. This is the Friends-bch's aim, and I hope with on-going financial support of its supporters it will be able to achieve this. I have a great respect for the ongoing work and developments they are making to the hospice and provision of care.  All money donated will go directly to help these children and their families.

Please visit their website, www.friends-bch.org.uk to find out more about the valuable work the charity does in Belarus.

I would love to run the GNR in about 2 hours, but that very much depends on how much training I manage to fit in over the summer, in Brittany! I completed a 10k run in Edinburgh earlier this year, and loved every minute of it, so I am really looking forward to the atmosphere of the GNR.

Thanks very much for any donation, no matter how big or small.

Lots of love, Claire xx
