PAGE UPDATE 24/03/10

Today we received the Scottish Ombudsman's Report about Claire's Death.

It can be read at www.spso.org.uk/investigation-reports/2010/march/tayside-nhs-board

Let's hope that it can make a diiference to people with Learning Difficulties who are treated in hospitals.

Also read the article in the Dundee Evening Telegraph http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/output/2010/03/24/story14760633t0.shtm

We are hoping to raise funds in memory of Claire who was born with Myotonic Dystrophy on June 13th 1979 and died very suddenly on April 1st 2008 following a minor operation in Dundee. Claire also had a shunt and drain inserted at three months old.

One of the doctors said an hour after Claire's birth, "If, she survives, I don't know what her quality of life will be"

Well, her quality and life has been inspirational to us all. Despite her difficulties, Claire lived life to its very fullest. She enjoyed music both listening to and singing (she won a silver medal for singing). Also she enjoyed going out, dancing, taking part in a drama group, swimming, horse riding, trampolining, drawing, socialising, being in the company of her brother, Justin and sister Sarah-Louise, amongst many other activities. Claire was an incredible credit to herself and her family. She touched the hearts of all who met her, had many friends and will always be remembered with great love by all forever.

On presenting Princess Anne with flowers, many years ago at Trefoil, Claire said to HRH "You'll have to come and get them because I've got sore legs". Didn't stand on ceremony our precious girl.

The page is also dedicated to her little sister Briony, who died in infancy on August 26th 1981.  It is our hope that any funraising will enable research into Myotonic Dystrophy which will eliminate any further avoidable deaths.

Briony & Claire - Too Precious for this World

If anyone has a good fund raising idea for Myotonic Dystrophy, please contact john_fitzgerald@blueyonder.co.uk

Claire's family would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far.

A special thank you to all Claire's friends at Kemback Street who have worked so hard to make a large donation.

Lots of thanks to all the musicians from Dundee for their contribution to making the concert such a great night, especially to Drew and Lyn for all the backstage and on stage contributions.

Special Huge Thank you to Claire's big sister Sarah-Louise who ran the Great North Run for the FIRST TIME, trained so hard and raised lots of money, the vast majority of which is not featured here and went directly to Muscular Dystrophy. And thanks also to Sarah-Lou for not claiming all the big prizes she won at the concert. A special mention has also to be made to Claire's "Big Brov", Justin who was just immense on the day, always being "there" when needed. So PROUD of BOTH of them.

Our Claire  just would have enjoyed herself so much, but she did, because she was there in all our hearts and probably in a much more spiritual way than we all could imagine.

Jennifer & Jim are not buying presents for each other for Christmas this year and just making a contribution on this page. I think we should all do that!

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Please donate generously.
